Reports suggest the Premier League champions have been monitoring the goalkeeper for much of the season, with Sir Alex Ferguson sending his brother to Spain at the weekend to make a personal check on the player.

The Cameroon international, who has won 32 caps for his country, is rated as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga, yet his contract with Espanyol is set to expire at the end of next season.
