Biography:
Joël Dieudonné Martin Epalle Newaka (born February 20, 1978) is a Cameroonian football player. He begun his career in his local team called Union Douala. Soon after, he was brought to Greece to play for Ethnikos Piraeus and in 2001/2002 he was transferred to Panachaiki. That was a disastrous season for Panachaiki (including a 8-0 loss against Panathinaikos FC), with Joel leaving them for Aris Salonika. In 2004 he signed for Greek giants Panathinaikos FC. He missed the chance to be a first team player, although he played a few great matches, including a Panathinaikos FC 3-1 win against Rangers FC in Glasgow, where Epalle showed his potential ability but this match was not enough and in 2005 he left the club. Iraklis Salonika decided to buy him, and in January 2007 VfL Bochum bought him for 450,000 € and a 3 year deal.
He is capped with Cameroon and was a participant at the 2000 Olympic Games and at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He is a cousin of his fellow Cameroonian international Timothée Atouba.
